Powwow in November

We will be having three Powwow meetings in November.  Please start planning for what merit badges you would like to earn.  We will have the potential to earn 2 badges for each boy.  We will soon have a list of what merit badges will be offered.  The nice thing is there usually are some of the harder required merit badges here.

A good place for merit badge worksheets.  These will show you the requirements as well as help you organize how you want to get it done.

Meet the Scouts

I have kept my wall tent up on the lawn for most of the summer and we have used it as our meeting house.  We have built fires, done "hurry cases", played wild games and ultimately have learned a lot.  It will be a bummer to take down the tent.

Hike to Ski Lake 9/13/14

We left at about 8:15 saturday morning to go on a non-official hike to Ski Lake.  It was non-official because I wanted to hike with my kids up there but it doesn't hurt to take along some scouts so they can pass off items.  Only Ben and Tucker were able to make it.  It was really fun hike and I know some of the scouts regret not going after what the boys said.  All my kids went, Hal, Macey, Katy and Quinn.  On the way I challenged them to find 3 edible plants and to learn all the evergreen trees in the area.  We were able to find yarrow, oregon grape and currant bushes.  The pine trees in the area were Sub-alpine and Douglas Fir as well as Lodgepole and Whitebark pine.  They lost a little interest in the trees but otherwise found a lot of interesting things to do.  The hike is only about 2.5 miles and you climb 1000 feet even though it doesn't feel like it.  You start at Phillips trail head on Teton Pass.  There were lots of folks hiking that day including a patient of mine who had almost undergone a frightening loss of vision but is doing a lot better now.  The water was really cold but still fun to play in.
