Father Son Campout August 12, 2017

Unfortunately, none of the Scouts came to this event.  Since this was a church activity we had decided to count it as August's campout as it was an overnighter and would count for a Scout campout.  Had it not been for missing this event, there is one scout who could have earned the 12 month Camper award.  But such is life, which gets in the way alot.

Those that came were myself and Quinn, my nephew Max, Andrew and his sons, Heber, Henry and Truman.  In the morning Ryan brought Jake up.  We had a few high priests there and thanks go to Jay Hanson for cooking up a bunch of delicious hamburgers and Vern Woolstenhulme for allowing us the use of his pond.

It was a beautiful summer evening and morning with a nice sunset, warm weather and lots of peace and quiet.  We fished for a little while while we had enough light.  A few of Vern's friends or relatives caught some fish be we were not as lucky.  Me, Max and Quinn went around the far East side of the pond and could see a lot of decent sized trout in the water, but they were not looking for what we had.  Across the pond we could see Andrew and his boys who had the same luck as us.  We ate dinner around a campfire and told stories and then went to bed.

For breakfast Ryan brought up a mountain man type recipe in a dutch oven.  It was good.  After breakfast we took the canoes out and tried a little more fishing.  It was such a pleasant morning that we mostly just puttered around in the canoes.  All of the boys really liked it and its a bummer that not more came.

Cozy little tent

Jay's Grill and the empty grassy area.  I had moved all the way over to the end so there would be room for all the other fathers and sons.  It turned out to be just a long walk to the food.
